About the Tweed Valley Forest Festival

Hot on the heels of last years pilot, Tweed Valley Forest Festival 2007 is star-struck and spookier!

From Wednesday 24th to Sunday 28th October, there's a variety of indoor and outdoor events in the Valley celebrating both the area's Halloween customs and growing forest culture.

Many of the events are spine tingling but if that's not your thing then there's plenty of fascinating forest fun to be had as Iain Laidlaw of the Treefest Partnership explains:

"The Tweed Valley Forest Festival is shaping up to be a fantastic event packed with heaps of entertainment and activities for everyone.  Our dynamic team of Treefest partners have pulled together to lay on a fascinating blend of indoor and outdoor events. Thanks to all the organisers, the festival should be brilliant so I'd urge everyone to join in the fun and get a real taste of the history and culture in this stunning part of the Tweed Valley.
We are delighted to have new event partners on board this year including Bowhill House & Theatre who are hosting an evening of spooky activities which include a family ghost walk written and directed by Judy Steel; and Kailzie Gardens who are inviting families to an afternoon of Halloween family fun including a broom-stick race and ghostly sightings.
And opportunities to get into the forest include looking to the stars with Dark Sky Scotland and the Royal Observatory Edinburgh. This is a unique opportunity to see spectacular views of stars and planets, and if it’s cloudy, there is an indoor planetarium! There are two venues for this – Peebles/Glentress Forest and Lauder/Wooplaw Community Woodlands.”

Other activities include fascinating stories and a safari on the remarkable trees to be found locally, a horse ride into the beautiful Harehope forest, and Go-Ride Skills tests on Tweed Green for the youngsters…all set against the stunning autumnal backdrop of the Tweed Valley Forest Park.

Owing to last year’s huge success, the Wood Market in the Community Centre has been extended to run over 2 days. This is a fantastic opportunity to buy wood products direct from the makers…and a whole lot more!
“Quite simply the best Wood Market I have exhibited at”
“Warm & woody: a really great event with lots to do, see & talk about”
“Think I have done all my Christmas shopping here!”

The 1st Scottish Conker championships are planned on Tweed Green, Peebles…watch this space for details..!

In addition to the public events Borders Forest Trust are working with local schools to ensure that several hundred local children attend the magnificent puppet show ‘The Man who Planted Trees’. This was such a great success last year with children and teachers alike claiming this Puppet State Theatre Company’s production as a hilarious, heartwarming winner, that we have planned a public performance in Peebles.
“I wanted to take the dog home!”

The Festival is organised and supported by a dynamic team of Treefest Partners including Forestry Commission Scotland, Borders Forest Trust, Dark Sky Scotland, Traquair House, Kailzie Gardens,  Peebles Cycling Club, Bowhill House & Theatre, Peebles & District Ridng Club, Eastgate Theatre & Arts Centre, Tweeddale Tourist Consortium, Scottish Borders Council, Visit Scotland Borders, Scottish Furniture Makers Association, Wood School and BuyDesign, and more…..
