SHOWCASING MODERN FORESTRY A unique opportunity to get up close and personal with the harvesting machinery and see how the tree felling operation is carried out in modern forestry. A Forestry Commission minibus will take you into the depths of Traquair Forest guided by the Conservation Ranger, and you will be taken into the harvesting site to meet the harvester driver and have an opportunity to quiz the team about all things to do with timber production in the Tweed Valley. HERITAGE TREES OF THE TWEED VALLEY An informal day looking at ancient and heritage trees at two great Borders estates. The day starts at Kailzie where we will be exploring the heritage trees on the Estateand in the outstanding Gardens. The ‘Kailzie Larch’ is one of the top 100 heritage trees in Scotland and there are several equally impressive but less well know trees to discover. The afternoon will be spent exploring some of the fine old specimenswhich grace the grounds of Fairnilee Estate, including a visit to the impressive ‘Castle Sycamore’. Booking: Numbers are limited.
